Moon River (2025-ongoing)
Nature holds many histories. When I look at the land around my home in Northern California, I see the traces of a wildfire that ravaged the ancient Madrone trees. Lace lichen, reminiscent of Spanish moss, dangle from oak trees. The Russian River winds through this bucolic landscape but is inaccessible since a fence was built last year. While I am enchanted by the natural beauty, I contemplate the violent history and evolution of a divided country.
The photographs in this project were made with a large format camera. These cameras also recorded the Civil War, westward expansion, scenic wonders, indigenous peoples, lynchings, and celebrations. Using a view camera connects me to this history and place and allows me to explore my complicated relationship with this fragile country.
